The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness.
Integrative medicine is an approach to care that puts the patient at the center and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health.
A Certified Clinical Nutritionist assesses a person’s individual nutritional needs to help achieve optimal physiologic function. Use of specific diet modification and vitamin therapies are primary in the pursuit of health.
Dietary modifications are changes made during food preparation, processing, and consumption to increase the bioavailability of micronutrients—and reduce micronutrient deficiencies—in food at the commercial or individual/household level
Lifestyle modification involves altering long-term habits, typically of eating or physical activity, and maintaining the new behavior for months or years. Lifestyle modification can be used to treat a range of diseases, including obesity.
At your initial face to face consultation with Dr. Shaw, a trained functional medicine and board-certified clinical nutritionist, you will go through a complete medical history and exam, followed by an exploration of your health-related goals and concerns. Blood work and diagnostic tests will be ordered at this visit. Focus is placed on answering:
What is your diagnosis?
Can you be helped?
How long will it take?
How much will it cost?
How much improvement should you expect?
Treatment Plan $300
After all of your information has been gathered (history, exam, and in some cases blood work or other lab tests), an office visit will be scheduled to outline your treatment plan. This second visit is designed to educate you on your health and specific disease risks.
It consists of a detailed discussion on what the right diet is for you and how that diet change coupled with the nutritional intervention will correct your health concerns and change your life positively.
